Most people are familiar with the \u2018TO DO\u2019\u00a0\u00a0list. Generally represented by a list stuck on the family fridge with a combination of groceries to buy, bills to pay and household chores to get done. (As well as the odd random phone number scrawled to the side)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The incrementally more efficient of us have these lists with us wherever we go in paper form, such as a pad or even some pages dedicated in their diary.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The less organised have them in the form of 723 post it notes stuck around the outside of their computer monitor in the office, on the fridge and in the pages of their dairy.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

For the more technically minded, they use apps on their phone such as \u2018Reminders\u2019 or the likes, often with a notification badge showing the numbers 72, 41 or 239.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Whichever form your \u2018TO DO\u2019\u00a0\u00a0lists take, they are, in essence, all very similar. They represent all the things we don\u2019t want to forget to do, buy or deal with. They represent THINGS TO DO.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Our CALENDARS , on the other hand, represent the TIME WE HAVE AVAILABLE in our days to do the THINGS WE NEED TO DO. These calendars are generally taken up by our work or career in the form of large chunks of time or appointments with bosses, clients, prospects and the occasional doctor\u2019s appointment. Rarely, do we ever see anything from the \u2018TO DO\u2019 list\u00a0\u00a0appear in the \u2018AVAILABLE TIME\u2019 section called our CALENDAR.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Any vacant slots on those calendars get quickly consumed by either our own, or someone else\u2019s urgencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

So, to finally get to tick off anything from the \u2018To Do\u2019 list and get that injection of Dopamine (the Reward Chemical) that our brain\u2019s crave, is a beautiful thing. (Tragically, if we do complete a task that wasn\u2019t originally on the list\u00a0\u00a0– we get the pen out, or open the app and promptly put it \u2018ON\u2019 the list, just so we can get our Dopamine injection from ticking it \u2018OFF\u2019 the list.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

There is a better way!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Opus One allows users to have one place for all of these \u2018TO DOs\u2019 . The Master Task tab is the place to record everything that would generally appear on a person\u2019s \u2018TO DO\u2019\u00a0\u00a0list. \u201cEverything in one place is not that much different from the other lists though,\u201d I hear you saying. However, the difference here is in the methodology.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

By reviewing the items that are in the Master Task tab, you can ask yourself which ones need doing today or tomorrow or next week. You can then assign a date to that task and it will appear in your task list on that very day in your Daily Tasks tab in Opus One.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The game changer when it comes to productivity, is when you get to that day, you actually drag that task from the \u2018TO DO\u2019\u00a0\u00a0list and drop it into an available time slot in your CALENDAR.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

You have now converted a THING TO DO\u00a0\u00a0into a slot on the TIME AVAILABLE TO DO THEM. (Called your CALENDAR. )<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Applying the discipline to follow through on that timeslot and actually \u2018DO IT\u2019 will mean you will find yourself achieving more of the highly important things on your list than ever before.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Try it out for two weeks and see the difference that placing important items from your \u2018TO DO\u2019 \u2019 list into your \u2018TIME AVAILABLE TO DO\u2019 section (CALENDAR. ) makes to your productivity.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
